Identifying allied health evidence resources

Palliative care is provided by many Allied health disciplines from which there is an emerging and developing body of evidence.

Using the evidence base

Acknowledge the best available evidence which may not be in palliative care. You can extrapolate from your practice base (e.g., music therapy) to the palliative care population. Palliative care rehabilitation evidence can be found in several of these databases eg, CINAHL, PubMed, SCOPUS.

  • NeuroBITE is the Psychological Database for Brain Impairment Treatment Efficacy
  • PEDro is the Physiotherapy Evidence Database
  • OTSeeker is the database for Occupational Therapy Systematic Evaluation of Evidence
  • SpeechBITE is the Speech Pathology Database for Best Interventions and Treatment Efficacy
  • Rehabilitation evidence can be found in the Web of Science (free subscription/registration required)
  • Nursing/Allied health evidence can be found on CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature
  • PubMed provides access to the biomedical literature
  • BMJ Best Practice is a source of evidence-based answers to clinical questions
  • The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) is one of 6 databases on the Cochrane Library website.
  • The International Centre for Allied Health Evidence is at the University of South Australia
  • PaCERS has been developed as a rapid review service funded by Welsh Government to support professionals and other decision-makers working in palliative care.
