Expected Outcomes

The palliative care online training and information portal assists people providing frontline palliative care to aged persons in the community to improve the quality of their practice.

The portal offers six free, self-paced, fully online training modules, discussion forum and knowledge base designed to improve care provider skills and knowledge.

Palliative care online learning modules

Learning options

Four online modules designed to support care workers in applying the Guidelines for a Palliative Approach to Aged Care in the Community (COMPAC) to their practice.
It includes the knowledge, skills and values that are required to communicate and contribute to the care of clients in the community who have a life limiting illness and or are approaching the final stages of the normal ageing process.
Training modules include:

  • Module 1: A Palliative Approach to Care
  • Module 2: Planning and Assessment
  • Module 3: Providing Care to Clients and Carers
  • Module 4: Delivering a Palliative Approach for Aged Care in the Community Setting
Two online skills modules include:
  • Module 1: Pain Management
  • Module 2: Recognising the Deteriorating Client

NB The training is endorsed for Continuous Professional Development with ACN, RACGP and ACRRM, and mapped to nationally recognised units of competency.


Target audience

All health professionals and care providers (including volunteers and unpaid carers) working in or with an interest in community-based palliative care settings.
